About Olive Wreath Foundation
The Olive Wreath Foundation, launched in 2015, is underpinned by values of compassion, social conscience, and generosity. It is driven by Islamic principles of sharing blessings to uplift society.
The Foundation assists various communities across South Africa, but focusses its efforts in Alexandra, Marlboro and surrounding areas. Key stakeholders of the Foundation were born in Alexandra and have a strong connection to the area. Foundation members are active citizens and have built beneficial relationships with the respective ward councillors so that they’re aware of each community’s exact needs and challenges.

To help as many people as possible.
Academic Programme
- The Olive Wreath Foundation has established an academic programme to provide deserving applicants with financial support to pursue school and tertiary education. Mentorship and holistic development are a pivotal part of the programme. The Foundation hosts seminars for wellness, self-development and job preparedness. The academic programme has supported many applicants through the years of their academic careers.

Learning Centre
- The Foundation supports Iphutheng Primary School; an established primary school in the Alexandra area. The partnership with Iphutheng Primary School was initiated in 2018 when Iphuteng was in need of a library. The school had been using an old shipping container, and in 2019, the Foundation built a spacious library with books, reading nooks and study corners. Two librarians were appointed to assist the school in running the library and seeing to the pupil’s needs. The Foundation sponsored a printer, laptops, and internet as well. The library is now also used as a classroom for online teaching.
Food programme
Bread:
What began as a modest weekly distribution of 100 loaves of bread to the elderly at Tshebedisano Community Centre in Alexandra, grew to over 20 000 loaves of bread distributed monthly. The Foundation has eight drop off points and seven distribution points in surrounding underserved areas extending well beyond the Alexandra township.
Hampers:
Launched in August 2017, the Olive Wreath Foundation hamper project aimed to provide essential grocery items to deserving, underserved individuals around Johannesburg. This programme has grown exponentially since, and funds hampers distributed in Durban and Cape Town as well.
Development Centre
- The establishment of the Development Centre began in January 2021. The Centre aims to transform the mindsets of young individuals towards a more positively focused future. The Centre offers self-development workshops and counselling sessions to nurture the student’s physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing, as well as carpentry and sewing programmes to develop their skill sets.
